Torrevieja Salt Lakes – The Famous Pink Lagoon

Pink Salt Lake Laguna Rosa in Torrevieja, Costa Blanca, Spain

Torrevieja is famous for its stunning pink salt lakes – Las Salinas de Torrevieja. These natural lagoons are one of the most unique attractions on the Costa Blanca and a must-visit during your holiday.

The Pink Lake (Laguna Rosa)

The Laguna Rosa gets its incredible pink color from a special algae and brine shrimp that thrive in the extremely salty water. The color is most vibrant during summer months, especially in the morning light. It’s a photographer’s dream!

La Mata Lagoon & Nature Reserve

The Parque Natural de la Mata offers beautiful walking and cycling trails around the lagoon. The circular route is about 7km and mostly flat – perfect for a morning walk. You’ll see flamingos, herons, and many other birds. There are viewing platforms and information boards along the way. Pack water and sunscreen!

Health Benefits

The salt and mud from these lakes have been used for therapeutic purposes for centuries. Many locals believe the mineral-rich mud helps with skin conditions and joint pain. The high salt content means you float effortlessly – similar to the Dead Sea.

Salt Production

The Torrevieja salt works are among the largest in Europe, producing over 800,000 tons of salt annually. You can see the huge salt mountains from miles away – they look like snow-covered peaks in the Spanish sunshine!

Flamingos

Both lagoons are home to hundreds of flamingos, especially during migration seasons. Bring binoculars and enjoy watching these beautiful pink birds in their natural habitat.

Our apartments in Torrevieja are just a short drive from these amazing salt lakes. Ask us for directions when you arrive!
